Bo66y - the movie .... Please read
|
I've been lucky enough to be at a private screening tonight of Matt Lorenzo's new movie about the golden haired hero. Excellent film, nostalgic, emotional and uplifting. And it's a must see film for all Hammers and football fans I think.
I'm currently having a beer with Matt and a few others. And he'd really like more people to know about the premier of the film at Wembley Stadium on Monday evening doors open at 7pm. All proceeds are going to the Bobby Moore Fund. And the FA have allowed him to use Wembley for free with a big screen on the pitch. Seats for 4000 people at only £15 a pop and a Q&A session included.
Well worth going along. It's a really cinematic film and will be a bit special at the stadium.
And well worth buying the DVD. A real labour of love and a worthy piece of film making.

Are you seriously asking what a film about Bobby Moore has to do with West Ham?

I've only seen video footage of him but for me he was ahead of his time. In an era of cloggers and hatchet men, when it was still legal to be so, Bobby would win the ball without trying cripple a forward. that's why I'd have no doubt that he'd have been a great in the modern game too

Sometimes you wonder whether your memory of him is better than the reality, whether - good as he was - he was quite as good as we remember. Then you watch 90 minute DVDs of England-Brazil, West Ham-Preston and West Ham-TSV Munich, and you realise that your memory isn't playing tricks at all. He really was that good.

Eddie it's incredible that even after 24 years talking about it still moved Pearce to tears All West Ham fans should watch this film and hats off to Lorenzo who did an excellent job with this
I never realised to what extent Bobby was such an honourable man and have always felt disgusted how he was treated by the West Ham board in the yea Scthat followed his retirement even by Grenwood and the FA who snubbed him when Greenwood took the England job

The most moving part, for me, was Jonathan Pearce talking about when Bobby wanted to go to Upton Park for the last time, but his wife asked Pearce to persuade him not to go. I'm still gutted he didn't go, btw, but can totally understand why they didn't want him to.

Watched this at the weekend. It brought back wonderful memories of the great man. I have never seen a greater performance by a defender than the game he played against Brazil in the 1970 World Cup. The only thing that annoyed me was Redknapp using it as a vehicle for his vitriol towards the club.

Just watched this. Was tearing up on the train. What a great film and what man.
The word is bandied about too much these days but Bobby was a gent and Legend.

Mine finally arrived yesterday - and just watched. Well done Mr. Lorenzo. It's a measure of Moore the man that those associated with him seem to carry some of his dignity. Having been lucky enough to have seen his entire WHU and England careers much of the content was familiar but still remarkably moving. 'arry came across well, as did Brian Dear (ditto in Hero) and JP, though I do struggle to warm to Hursty. Was interested to discover he almost beat Taylor to the Watford job, and that Gazza wanted to come to West Ham! And as for that Jairzinho tackle.....I could watch that on a loop for hours. Bless you Bob - you certainly enriched this life.

At 55 I of course can remember seeing him play although of course was too young at the time to appreciate 66 as it happened.
I also knew of the cancer but like others not until a long while after he had been discovered. However I went to bed after watching it last night, feeling very upset at how it all ended for him. The old fools at the FA at the time and those in charge of West Ham should all be ashamed of themselves.
Great, great player, in fact I had forgotten just how good he was, also a lovely man who deserved so much more from others, how could they let all that enthusiasm, knowledge and experience go to waste?

Only 31, so I don't personally have any Bobby Moore memories to go on (just stories from Grandad) but I am obviously aware of him as a human and as a Footballer.
Despite this, I still had a little cry on three occasions watching the film this afternoon. Very moving & beautifully pieced together.
